Our son goes to school on post at Wheeler Middle school. Our teenage had a tough time at the local high school but mostly becaiuse the friends she chose were not at her level (all were military kids btw) and she was more interested in being friends than doing her work!

She is now going to Hawaii Technology Academy Throught eh K12 free online eschool program!  We are both LOVING the program!!!

Irma K. asks: Any info about schools at Schofield Barracks?

Kate O. says: Irma the best person to contact in a situation like this is the School Liaison Officer at Schofield. As a former SLO I can tell you that we are very knowledgeable about the schools laws and special education capabilities at each school. If you would like I can put you in touch with the SLO there. Since your son is autistic I would also contact the EFMP Coordinator so that he or she can assist you and provide support for the decisions that you need to make.

Here is the link to their website: http://www.himwr.com/school-support-services as well as the EFMP website: http://www.himwr.com/home-a-family-life/exceptional-family-member

U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii says: Irma As Kate stated the School Liaison Office is the best contact for questions and concerns. They can help with exception family member programs and provide in depth info about the schools here in Hawaii.

Please call 655-9818 or email tamsin.k.keone.naf@mail.mil. Feel free to contact me if you need additional assistance at 656-3153. ~Lacey USAG-HI PAO

02-2011 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù My son is only 7 months, so I don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t know much about the education systems here. I know that the daycare on base has a long waiting list.

Since I am from Hawaii, I do know that schools has change a lot since I was in it. Some of the schools in Hawaii may not be the greatest but I have no issues with them. Many who come to Hawaii tend to either homeschool or send their children to private or charter schools. I have met many military spouses who actully had no issues with the schools in Hawaii.

Here are a few links to check out to find more information on schools in hawaii:
